The Nation's Largest Hand-Painted Mural
Created By Anne Banas
Strictly Limited Edition Of 300 Signed & Numbered Prints By Artist Anne Banas

Limited edition lithographs have been reproduced from the original artwork used to create the largest hand-painted mural in the country:

"First Team"

This mural, in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, rose 96 feet high over a six-story parking garage, and was 215 feet wide. Conceived by artist Anne Banas, the final mural was painted by Anne over a seven-week period, with the assistance of 11 other artists. Seven were Anne's former students at the Kent Campus of Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

The mural was so large, it could not be completely viewed from street level. It was clearly visible from I-95 a half-mile to the west, and was especially stunning at night when fully illuminated. To fully appreciate the massive scale, when standing on the top level of the garage the mural completely filled all peripheral vision. Most of the players' feet were the size of an average SUV, and each player's head was over 20 feet tall! Painting the mural required 14 levels of scaffolding... over half a mile of platforms!

The conception of the mural, commissioned by First Union Bank, required seven months of sketches, meetings, and cooperation with the Jacksonville Jaguars and owner Wayne Weaver. The color proof began as a gridded sketch, later used as the guide to grid the massive wall for the final mural. The artists involved followed the lines of the proof for each section of the gridwork, with one square inch equaling 16 square feet! Color was added to the proof, and the final colors added in layers to the mural face. Local Media provided constant attention to the developing landmark The mural quickly became a favorite landmark, and was featured from the overhead blimp at every nationally-televised Jaguars game for six years. It was painted over in September 2004 in preparation of the sale of the building.
